Yoga at St Albans High School, Digby Road, Ipswich IP4 3NJ
Wednesday evenings 7.45- 9.05pm
DATES: Weekly Last class before Christmas break: Wednesday December 18th 2019. Classes resume Wednesday January 8th 2020 BUT there is no class on January 15th 2020
Yoga is in A9 Hall in the Art and Humanities Block to left of main entrance to school. Parking available in front of block (Visitors’ Parking). Enter black/mesh gates, follow sign into Art and Humanities Block, then follow any signs to DRAMA. Room is at bottom of corridor on right. Floor of room is quite hard, so a blanket is useful to cushion mat for supine postures.
Spare mats, blocks, belts and eye pillows available to borrow.
Classes include yoga exercises/postures (asana), breathing practices (pranayama) and relaxation. This is not a one-size fits all sort of class. Classes are varied and never repetitive so you can develop your yoga at your own pace and constantly discover new practices and approaches with suggestions for modifications where needed.
What to bring/wear:
Please wear comfortable clothes for stretching in yoga asanas and bring a non slip mat and a blanket for the final relaxation. Yoga is traditionally done barefoot.
Benefits of Yoga:
Yoga promotes a healthy body and mind. It can:
- Help you relax, cope with stress and feel calmer
- Increase your energy levels
- Tone the respiratory system and promote healthy breathing
- Improve posture, help you stand tall and redress problems such as hunched upper back or rounded shoulders
- Increase and maintain flexibility, mobility and core and muscle strength
- Improve balance and concentration
- Improve overall well being
“I enjoy everything about the classes: the lovely calm atmosphere in the room, helped by candles, lovely aromas and lighting; the way you put so much effort into every session. We always do something different in sessions and they are paced to suit all levels. I always leave with a lovely sense of well-being.” (Lynn, August 2019)
“I sleep better after the class; I feel more relaxed generally; I feel better as a whole.” (Sandra, August 2109)
“I feel calmer after the classes and the positive feelings I get from yoga continue into the week. Caroline is a great teacher and regularly brings in new ideas.” (Emma, Ipswich July 2019)
“Thank you for your attentive and wonderful yoga classes. You always create such a calming atmosphere with candles, flowers and throws and it is all these details which make a difference. The classes themselves are consistently excellent.” (Kristina, Ipswich, July 2019)
“My weekly yoga with Caroline is a little bit of “me time”. It gives me the chance to switch off for a short while. I leave the class feeling refreshed, calmer and more relaxed than when I arrived – and always sleep very well that night. The classes are suitable for all levels, as Caroline talks you through each pose, with suggestions for how to adapt each one to make them easier or more challenging. I would strongly recommend that you give it a try, regardless of whether or not you have practiced yoga previously.” (Nicky, Feb 2016)
